OUR MISSION
In Nashville Kurdish Forum, we are
dedicated to empowering Kurds, as well as other refugees and immigrants, in
the Nashville area through social service delivery and educational programs
that promote self-sufficiency and integration into the mainstream society for
all New Americans. |
|
WHY THE FORUM EXISTS?
Nashville has become home to more than 6,000
Kurds, one of the nation’s largest populations. The Forum recognizes the
importance of all foreign-born communities in the city’s previous history.
Therefore, we will be working toward the adjustment and strengthening of all
newcomers to maintain and increase their contribution to the society. |

OUR VISION
The vision of the Forum is to bridge
the gaps between Kurds, other foreign-born populations, and Nashville’s
larger community in order to reach full participation in the civic life of
the city and have equal access to systems and services. |

ABOUT
KURDISTAN Kurds are from a region of about 40 million without an
officially recognized country. They have lived in the area called Kurdistan
since many centuries B. C. Their homeland has been divided among Iraq, Iran,
Turkey, Syria, and the former Soviet Union. By demanding their basic rights
and democratic principles, Kurds have been subjected to many ethnic cleansing
campaigns and massacres since the beginning of the 20th Century. Millions of
them were forced to leave their country and seek better lives for their
families and children. The majority of Nashville Kurds came form that part of
Kurdistan which is controlled by Iraq. Among them there are also Kurds from
Iran and Turkey as well. |
